Overview
BTS in our words is a special book project slated for release on June 13, 2021, that profiles each member in the words of an ARMY during the year of 2020. Further to this, the project aims to give voice to the broader ARMY community through providing a space for open submissions for all creative works on BTS which will be displayed on the soon-to-be-launched ARMY Archive. Works will be selected from the archive and compiled into a limited edition hardback book. Both books and the archive will be presented as a birthday gift to BTS. To find out more about how to submit to the archive, please go here.
The book
BTS in our words will be an anthology series released on the birthday of BTS each year, where ARMY are invited to submit chapter proposals for which member they’d like to profile in the context of the year that has just passed.
The aim of the book is threefold:
To tell the story of BTS from the perspective of ARMY, thus giving a platform for fandom voices
To provide the fandom and the general public with a book that chronicles elements of BTS in ways that are unique, educational and add to a positive, dynamic discourse
To give BTS a thoughtful gift from ARMY on their birthday.
The call
Series editor Wallea Eaglehawk is calling for proposals from ARMY for a chapter on the following members:
Kim Namjoon, RM
Kim Seokjin, Jin
Min Yoongi, Suga
Jung Hoseok, j-hope
Park Jimin, Jimin
Kim Taehyung, V
Jeon Jungkook, Jung Kook
The brief
There are many books in the world that seek to tell the story of BTS, but none which are written collaboratively by ARMY. This project aims to mix scholarly and non-fiction writing styles to tell the story of each member in 2020.
Series editor Wallea Eaglehawk is calling for daring and unique proposals that seek to profile a member of BTS from the perspective of ARMY. The idea of the chapter is to tell the story of the member in the context of 2020, and through that, link to their broader work over the years in the context of the here and now. Each chapter should be heartfelt, meaningful and bring to light new perspectives that enrich the experience of the reader and demonstrate BTS’ impact on ARMY and the world.
The chapter must rely heavily on interviews and other information readily available to the public. The use of lyrics written or performed by the member are encouraged, as well as other forms of communication such as V Lives and Tweets. Further, the chapter must link the profile of the member to broader global themes, such as the pandemic. Lastly, the chapter should draw upon fandom discourse and experiences which can be in the form of fan interviews, Tweets, or other artifacts that the author has stored and analysed.
Ultimately, the chapter must answer the questions: Who was this member during 2020, and what was their impact on ARMY and the world? What can we learn from them? What do we (ARMY) most want them (the member) to know on their eighth birthday in June 2021?
Requirements
Final chapters will not exceed 8000 words (note: we do not require submission of a complete chapter, only a proposal)

Selection
Only one chapter on each member by one ARMY will be accepted into the book. We will evaluate each proposal based on the criteria above. The proposal which is the most dynamic, nuanced, and unique from the author that is able to adequately demonstrate their abilities and knowledge will be selected. Revolutionaries retain the right to select or reject proposals at their discretion. By submitting a proposal you are not guaranteed a place in the book. Those who are unsuccessful will be given a publication pathway through Bulletproof, and invited to submit to the archive.
